Two bands - one mission
Capitol City Band (CCB)
A professional concert band that plays free summer concerts-in-the-park June, July and August. The band plays other places by contract and for a fee.
Jim Latimer has conducted the band since 1981.
He is assisted by percussionist, David Pedracine (since 2003).
VFW Volunteer Band
Musicians who love playing their instrument and playing music for other people including Veterans ceremonies at the state Capitol on
Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Musicians are from all walks of life; they are amateur and semi-pro musicians who want to play music to give back to the community.
Professional musicians often join to gain reading
experience on primary or secondary instruments.
Conducted by Jim Latimer since 1981;
assistant conductor, David Pedracine since 2005.

The time is NOW
to help secure the future of the Capitol City Band Association so that no matter who is conducting, who is playing, and who programs the music and handles logistics, Capitol City Band and VFW Band will go on, let’s just say “forever.”
Capitol City Band is a place for musicians to gather (by audition) and play concerts in the park (CCB) and VFW Band is a volunteer opportunity (VFW Band) for amateur and semir-pro (or pro-) to take music to the residents of health care and assisted living and to play for the Veterans at least twice a year.
We invite you to support the Capitol City Band Association, to propel a CCB Friends initiative to ensure that there will be the VFW Band and Capitol City Band, let’s just say “forever.” We are confident that you will help see this project through. There will come a time when Jim Latimer wishes to pass the baton. We want for that to be easy when the time comes - thus the creation of Friends of the CCBA.
Welcome to our website
The Capitol City Band Association exists because of Friends and Boosters. CCBA was established as a nonprofit organization in 1979 and is tax exempt as a 501(c)3 organization. Contributions are tax deductible according to current tax laws.
The two bands with one mission can only play concerts because of supporters and believers like you.
Summer 2018, Capitol City Band played the 50th season.
2020 Both bands did not performdue to the pandemic. Summer 2021, CCB played the 900th free public service concert.
2017 VFW Band played the 1000th public service concert. 2024 begins the 75th season.
